Hello!
My name is Mrs. Susan Clark and I live in Mount Vernon, Texas. I am married to David and have two wonderful grown-up sons. One is Erik who is 23 years old and one is Garrett who is 20 years old. I loved being a mom when they were little, and I still love being a mom!
I have taught in the public school system for 23 years and have taught PK-4th grade; all subjects. Because I have always enjoyed art of all types, I studied for a supplemental certification test in Art PK-12. Hooray! I passed the test! I thought that if an art teaching position became available, I might have a chance of teaching my natural passion and hobby.
Some of my art background includes working in NYC in the graphics department for the National Association of Accountants, learning how to print signs with a brush, and mixing dye to match material with which to dye shoes. I took many art classes in H.S. and college. I minored in Art Therapy. Also, during the summer after my H.S. graduation, I joined a group called Gallery on Wheels. Every so often, we would set up our paintings with other artists at flea markets and other well-traveled spots. That is when I learned what they mean by “starving artist”.
I am so thankful for this opportunity to teach Art at Cumby ISD. I have been cleaning, painting, and decorating the room. Now it is time to plan the curriculum. This summer, I volunteered for three days with the Franklin County Arts Alliance Children’s Workshop. I worked with an artist and got the feel of strictly teaching art to students. I believe I’ve got it. Also, I spoke to Mr. Marosek for his input and will continue to stay in contact throughout this year. (I hope not to be too much of a bother to him!)
I will be asking H.S. students who have art, to buy 2 canvas boards after Spring Break. They sell them at Wal-Mart and Michael’s. If this is impossible, perhaps a spray painted 16″ by 20″ board of any type will do.
When painting and printing, I suggest that your child wear a smock. Please send one to school with your child’s name on it.
I look forward to working with your children. If you have any questions please come to see me, e-mail me, blog me, or call!
Go Trojans!
